About Feather Edge Optics of Cape May Bird Observatory

Founded in 1976 by the New Jersey Audubon Society*, the Cape May Bird Observatory (CMBO) is a leader in research, environmental education, bird conservation, and recreational birding activities.

Our mission: to understand and instill appreciation of the needs of resident and migrating birds so that human ambitions do not undermine them. Funded almost entirely by the support of an international membership, two facilities serve our members' needs and interests.

* The New Jersey Audubon Society (NJAS) is a privately supported, not-for profit, statewide membership organization. Founded in 1897, and one of the oldest independent Audubon societies, NJAS has no affiliation with the National Audubon Society.

OUR PLEDGE TO YOU; YOUR PLEDGE TO US

Outfitting you with the right optics is part of our mission and while our prices reflect a very low profit margin, all profits serve our conservation, research and education efforts. If you take advantage of our assistance to compare makes and models but purchase your binoculars elsewhere you are doing a disservice to us and to the environment....

FIRST, by not supporting our work with your purchase here,
SECOND, by taking the time we might have directed toward that mission and more forthright buyers.

If you choose to buy optics from another online vendor you choose to accept the limitations and the risks.

OUR FIVE POINT PROMISE TO YOU

These are the things you can expect when you buy your instruments from CMBO and on FeatherEdge Optics:

  1. Our promise that our first obligation is to you, the buyer.
    • Our store naturalists do not receive any commissions on sales.
    • We do not subscribe to any program offered by manufacturers that encourages the sale of one line of products over another (i.e. we don’t take kick backs).
  2. The perfect instrument tailored specifically to you.
  3. A binocular or spotting scope that is mechanically perfect and offers image quality that equals or exceeds our high standards.
On every instrument we sell we check for:
    • Barrel alignment
    • Any dust or debris deposited on internal elements.
    • Mechanical performance.
    • Image quality and parity in and between both barrels.
  4. A member price based upon the lowest retail price permitted dealers by the manufacturer.
  5. Free performance testing and external cleaning for the service life of your instrument.
